Weather The Storm

There are potentially rough seas ahead for the Yankees. There's a lot of things going on in the Yankees universe that's stretching the team to its limits.

  • Jorge Posada has a "dead" arm and is unable to throw the ball effectively
  • Derek Jeter has a strained quad and has missed a week
  • Joba Chamberlain has understandably left the team for personal matters
  • Jose Molina has an injured hammy
  • A-Rod's wife is due to give birth any day now and he will understandably miss a few days

Jeter looks to be on the mend and should be back today or tomorrow. Posada can at least still bat but how effective will Chad Moeller be behind the dish. Will Moeller's bat rival that of Molina's or will he be more along the lines of Wil Nieves? Molina has been awesome this year filling in for Jorge and losing him could have a big impact. I haven't heard how serious Jose's injury is. I hope it's not too bad and is more day-to-day and no DL stint will be needed. A-Rod's time away probably won't be too bad. They can probably live with Ensberg for a day or two. Watch, it'll happen during the upcoming Boston series.

The biggest question mark is with Joba Chamberlain. Family should come over baseball. He should take all the time he needs to attend to his Dad. I hope his condition improves and Joba returns sooner than later, but God forbid the worst case scenario happens, then what? Joba has been lights out as Mo's setup man. The bullpen takes a significant hit with Joba gone. Personally, I'd give the ball to Brian Bruney and/or Billy Traber and play the matchups. No way I give the ball to Farnsworth or Hawkins. But I'm not Joe Girardi. Who knows what he'd do? He did after ll let Mussina pitch to Manny.

These issues aren't anything that the Yankees can't get through. A little adversity never hurt anybody.
