Win And They're In

The Rangers lost to the Angels 10-5. The Yankees magic # to clinch a playoff spot is now 1, which means a win today, and they're in. They're currently down 2-0 in the first and it looks like bad-Joba is on the hill. Hopefully he settles down and they wrap up the spot today. It'll be good to get it out of the way. As nice as winning the division is, I can guarantee they don't care if they win it or not. You can't win it all if you're not playing. The magic # of 1 means they can do no worse than tie. For that to happen, they'd have to lose all of their remaining games while the Rangers win theirs. That my friends, isn't going to happen.

Peace, love and Pinstripes,

I really disagree that the Yanks don't care if they win the division or not, J-Boogie. I think they would strongly prefer home field, and not being the wild card and starting on the road in Anaheim. That worked poorly in 2007, and missing out on an attainable home field advantage in 2005 hurt as well. They Yanks are a very good road team, and an even better home team that has won 14 games via the walk-off.

I think home field matters a lot, and the division with it matters a lot, too.
