The Yankees Are The Champs!

Congrats to the Scranton Yankees for capturing their first International League title! Scranton laid a whooping on the Durham Bulls, beating them 20-2. I caught the game on MILB.com. It was nice to see a team named the Yankees win a title. If only the minor league success could somehow translate to the parent club. Phil Hughes got the start and was pretty impressive, striking out a dozen in 5 innings. Speaking of Phil, he is going to be appearing on Baseball Digest Daily Radio later today (Saturday). He is scheduled to appear from about 12:05pm-12:15pm. If you're interested in checking it out, here's some more info about tomorrow's show, and thanks to Eric for the heads-up and the info. I'm a big Hughes guy so I'm definitely going to tune-in to hear what he's got to say. Enjoy.

Birmingham, Ala. -- BDD Live returns with two amazing guests and an hour worth of talk about the nation's pastime. With one team having punched its way into the postseason, more slots are up for grabs as the final three weeks of play are sure to be packed with intensity and excitement. Join host Eric SanInocencio as he covers that while also sitting down with one of the prized young arms in the New York Yankee organization.

Phil Hughes joins us in the opening segment, fresh off his start in the Governor's cup for the Scranton-Wilkes Barre Yankees. Hughes began the 2008 season in the Yankees rotation, but a rib injury finds the talented hurler looking to work his way back up the Bronx. Hughes will comment on his rehab, a new offering he's throwing and his times in the Big Apple.

BDD Live's second segment brings in another special guest, as ESPN's own Orestes Destrade will step in. Destrade serves in a variety of capacities for the worldwide leader, appearing on Baseball Tonight and co-hosting SportsNation, a radio program that airs at 3 p.m. ET weekdays on ESPN Radio. The Big "O" will share his thoughts on the hotly contested races remaining, and the records that may fall in the season's final month.

With several other hot topics worth mentioning, BDD Live will open the phone lines in our final 15 minutes to let our listeners decide the conversation. To join in on the debate, dial 646-716-7728.

I'm assuming these comments are from Leo?? You know, I never knew that about Jeter calling him that.

Hello, J

I was to lazy to type in my info and the anonymous option seemed convinient. I was a democratic Phil Hughs supporter but his injury was a huge disapointment. It can be arqued that if he did anything close to what he was suppose to do the Yankees would be in a much better stance. Well not to put blame on Phil at all. I'm just noting with a healthy Phil-Jorge must account for at least ten wins. I see your giving out the DVD's again that's great. I'll have it on playback in the batcave all october to comfort this season. That's a idea? Can you send a set to the Yankees and remind them what winning was like?

I can't wait for next year (I have CC and Sheets thoughts in my future!)...But in all seriousness my wife and I are going next Sunday and sadly its likely the last game ever at Yankee Stadium. Kinda funny how this year has gone and if things end the way they appear we may finish 4th! Yuck! It will be great though to kick the snot out of Baltimore for the final game! We got tickets in the upper tier for less than $200 which wasnt too bad (if anyone else is interested?) http://www.esellout.com/ResultsGeneralAtVenue.aspx?kwds=New+York+Yankees&venid=68
At least Hughes got the call up after the AAA playoffs, it would be a nice way to salvage his season with a couple good appearances heading into the offseason either as a part of Yankees future lure OR in a potential trade! LET'S GO YANKEES!

Armando- I'm looking forward to the Yanks future also. Hopefully they hold onto Hughes. I really hope they land CC. Give him a blank check if they have to. I hope you guys enjoy your final trip to the Stadium. I'm going to the 2nd to last game. It was the best I could do. Sounds like you made out alright.

Leo - I think Jorge's absence played a huge part in how poor the offensive was. He was pretty much the main difference between thsi year and last year. Hopefully they wise up and don't try to amke him catch next year. If they do I foresee the same thing happening. I'd almost consider trading an OF and letting JoPo DH, or if they miss out on Teixeira, letting him play 1st. I think he'll do more harm then good behind the plate.
